Start It Off
CRN's monthly roundup of notable IT executive moves continues through February, highlighting moves at Lenovo, Citrix, ShoreTel and a host of service providers, master agencies and VARs. Have a look.
Jerry Yang
As the co-founder and former CEO of Yahoo, Jerry Yang solidified his position as one of the biggest names in the history of the Web business. And now, Yang, who resigned from Yahoo last year, has found a new home at Lenovo. The computer maker announced Yang will serve as an observer of its board of directors. According to Lenovo, Yang will attend all board meetings and serve as an advisor.
Tudor Brown
Joining Jerry Yang at Lenovo is another industry luminary: Tudor Brown, co-founder and former president at ARM Holdings. Brown has joined Lenovo's as a non-executive member of the company's board of directors. Brown, who retired from ARM last year, is credited with turning the British chip maker into a technology powerhouse over the last decade.
John Convery
John Convery, former executive vice president of vendor relations and marketing at Denali Advanced Integration, has left the fast-growing solution provider to start his own business. Convery recently launched John Convery Consulting, which provides strategic advice and insight for IT executives and sales and marketing professionals.
Greg Brown
Cisco added a big name to its board of directors when it tapped Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions. Brown has served at Motorola since 2003 and was elected to Motorola's board in 2007; he became CEO of the company in 2008 and oversaw the 2011 spinoff of Motorola's handset division, Motorola Mobility, which was later acquired by Google.
Sudhakar Ramakrishna
Citrix named a new head of its expanding cloud and desktop virtualization business. Sudhakar Ramakrishna was named senior vice president and general manager of Citrix's Desktop and Cloud Division. He joins Citrix from Polycom, where he most recently served as president of products and services.
Michael Valentine
Sophos added security veteran Michael Valentine to its executive team. Valentine takes over as senior vice president of Sophos' worldwide sales after most recently serving as vice president of Americas sales at Fortinet. Valentine, who has more than 20 years of sale and channel experience, also served at WatchGuard and SonicWall.
Del Ross
Former SugarCRM channel chief Del Ross has left the company. Ross, who was vice president of channel sales for North America and Latin America, had served the CRM software vendor for three years. He is now vice president of worldwide channel sales at SilverSky, a SaaS-based security vendor.
Chris Ranger
Westcon Group named Chris Ranger as its new vice president of services for EMEA. A 25-year technology veteran, Ranger comes from Intermec Technologies where he led the services effort for the supply chain technology vendor. Ranger also previously served as vice president of enterprise mobility solutions at Motorola Solutions.
Michael Combes
Alcatel-Lucent will have a CEO to lead the company through its restructuring. Michael Combes was named as Alcatel-Lucent's newest chief executive, replacing former CEO Ben Verwaayen. Combes comes to the telecom equipment maker from Vodafone, where he served as Vodafone Europe's CEO. He also worked for many years at France Telecom in a variety of executive roles.
Dan Hoffman
ShoreTel has shuffled its cloud leadership team. Dan Hoffman, president and general manager of ShoreTel's Cloud Division, was promoted to chief strategy officer for all of ShoreTel. Prior to joining ShoreTel in 2012, Hoffman was CEO of hosted UC company M5 Networks, which ShoreTel acquired last year.
Keith Nealon
Succeeding Dan Hoffman as head of ShoreTel's Cloud Division is Keith Nealon, who most recently served as a division vice president at the unified communications company. Before ShoreTel, Nealon worked at several SaaS companies such as Conductor, an enterprise SEO SaaS platform, and Eloqua, a marketing automation company.
Jeff Pancottine
Riverbed added former Juniper Networks executive Jeff Pancottine to its leadership team. Pancottine, who had served as vice president and general manager of Juniper's Emerging Technology Business Unit, will now take over as senior vice president and general manager of Riverbed's Stingray application delivery business unit. Pancottine also spent many years at F5 Networks.
Bernd Lienhard
AMD added microprocessor technology veteran Bernd Lienhard to its executive team. Lienhard will serve as corporate vice president and general manager of AMD's Client Business Unit. Lienhard most recently was vice president and general manager of Freescale Semiconductor's network procession division and also spent time at other chip companies such as Conexant Systems and Siemens Semiconductor.
Martin Edelman
AMD also added a new name to its board of directors. Martin Edelman joins the board as a representative of West Coast Hitech L.P., an affiliate of Mubadala Development Company and AMD's largest stockholder. Edelman takes the board seat of Waleed al Muhari, who resigned after four years as an AMD director and brings a 40-year legal career to the chip maker.
Hisao Tanaka
Toshiba is getting a new chief executive. The Japanese technology vendor has tapped Hisao Tanaka as its new president and CEO. Tanaka, who will take over for former CEO Norio Sasaki, is stepping down in June. Tanaka is a longtime Toshiba veteran and most recently served as corporate senior executive vice president.
Jeff Lindholm
Arbor Network's executive Jeff Lindholm has joined Brocade's management team. Lindholm, who most recently served as senior vice president of field operations at Arbor Networks, takes over as senior vice president of Brocade's worldwide sales. A 30-year technology veteran, Lindholm also worked at Juniper Networks in a number of executive roles, including senior vice president of worldwide sales and chief marketing officer.
Daniel Allen
Daniel Allen's short-lived tenure at CACI International is officially over. Allen, who took over as president and CEO of the government systems integrator last July for former chief executive Paul Cofoni, split from CACI this month. Allen joined CACI in 2011 as COO of the company's U.S. operations. He had previously served senior vice president roles at other government technology integrators like Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics.
Kenneth Asbury
Replacing Daniel Allen as CACI's CEO is Kenneth Asbury, a longtime Lockheed Martin executive. Asbury spent nearly two decades with Lockheed Martin in a variety of executive roles, including president of three different business units (information systems and global solutions, civil mission services, and technical operations). Asbury most recently served as president and CEO of ASRC Federal Holding Company.
Muhammed Saeed
Big data company Relevant Data Corp. named Muhammed Saeed as its new CEO. Saeed takes over Relevant Data Corp., which specializes in predictive analytics, during a pivotal stage of the company's expansion. Saeed previously served as managing partner of Hummingbot.com, a Web solutions and SEO firm, and also founded Firefly Capital, an electronic brokerage firm.
David Duncan
David Duncan has joined Webroot as the security SaaS company's chief marketing officer. A longtime IT security executive, Duncan was the founder and president of EncryptX, a security software vendor, and also served as a managing director at Imation following the security company's acquisition of EncryptX.
Richard Lynch
BlackBerry added two new names to its board of directors. The first is longtime Verizon executive Richard Lynch, who is currently president of consulting firm FB Associates. Lynch has previously served as executive vice president and chief technology officer at Verizon Communications since 2007. He also served as executive vice president and CTO of Verizon Wireless.
Bert Nordberg
BlackBerry also appointed veteran Ericsson executive Bert Nordberg to its board. Nordberg is currently chairman of Vestas Wind Systems, a Danish wind energy company. Heal so served as Chairman of Sony Mobile in 2012 and was president and CEO of Sony Ericsson, holding many senior executives roles during his time with the Swedish telecom company.
Kip Quackenbush
Email security company Sendio tapped Kip Quackenbush as its new president and CEO. Quackenbush has worked at a number of enterprise software companies prior to joining Sendio, including vice president of worldwide sales at spam filter company Red Condor, and vice president of sales and marketing at instant messaging firm Akonix Systems.
Bill Santos
Hosting.com has promoted Bill Santos as executive vice president of sales and enterprise solutions for the cloud hosting firm. Santos joined Hosting last year as vice president of professional services. He had previously served as general manager of services at solution provider SHI and director of strategy and innovation at IBM.
Mark Lockareff
Nexenta Systems, which received $24 million in series D financing, has named Mark Lockareff as its new CEO. Lockareff will be charged with expanding the software-defined storage startup during a crucial growth period for the company. Lockareff has previously served as an advisory board member on a number of startups, including ParAccel, Agiliance and Riverbed Technology.
Julie Cullivan
Julie Cullivan has joined FireEye as the security vendor's chief information officer. The longtime IT executive has previously worked at several IT companies, including vice president roles at Autodesk and McAfee, as well as vice president of worldwide field operations at EMC.
Enrique Salem
FireEye also added a big name to its board of directors this month. Enrique Salem, former president and CEO of Symantec, has joined FireEye's board. Salem has more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry, having served as CEO of Brightmail before joining Symantec. Salem was also appointed to President Barack Obama's Management Advisory Board in 2011.
Andrew Littleproud
McAfee promoted Andrew Littleproud to president of Asia Pacific. Littleproud joined McAfee in 2008 and had served of managing director for the security company's Australia and New Zealand operations, overseeing the company's channel business in the regions. Prior to that, Littleproud was general manager of EMC Software in Australia and New Zealand.
James D. Foy
Talend has appointed software veteran James D. Foy as executive chairman of the global integration software company. Foy has several decades of experience in the software industry, including a stint as CEO of Constellation Siftware, head of engineering at Ardent and president of Informix. He was also CEO of Davox and Aspect Software.
Barry Weber
DinCloud appointed Barry Weber as chief technology officer. Weber joins the cloud technology company after previously serving as president and CTO of T3 Dynamics, a cloud services firm. He was also vice president of IT for Barnes and Noble's e-commerce division, as well as director of strategic services at Mercury Interactive.
