Start It Off

CRN's monthly roundup of big executive moves saw several more changes at HP, including a major transition for the company's Printing and Personal Systems Group, plus a host of new channel chiefs at vendors big and small.

Todd Bradley

The biggest move in the month of June came from HP: Todd Bradley, formerly executive vice president of HP's Printing and Personal Systems Group, was moved to the newly created position of executive vice president of strategic growth initiatives. In his new position, Bradley will oversee HP's business in China and be charged with enhancing the vendor's global channel relationships. An eight-year veteran of HP, Bradley was formerly the CEO of Palm.

Dion Weisler

HP tapped Dion Weisler to replace Bradley as head of the company's Printing and Personal Systems Group. Weisler previously served as senior vice president and managing director of the Printing and Personal Systems Group in Asia-Pacific and Japan. Before joining HP, Weisler spent several years at another major PC company in Lenovo; he most recently served as vice president and COO of Lenovo's Mobile Internet and Digital Home Groups.

Randy Seidl

HP saw another big executive move last month. Randy Seidl, senior vice president and general manager of HP's Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking in the Americas, is stepping down from his post in September, according to sources. Seidl joined HP in 2009 after spending several years at Sun Microsystems, where he had most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of North America. Prior to Sun, Seidl spent 11 years at EMC, joining the storage vendor in 1985.

Keith Block

Salesforce.com made a big move last month by hiring a former executive from archrival Oracle. Keith Block, formerly executive vice president of North America sales and consulting at Oracle, was appointed as president and vice chairman of Salesforce.com. Block spent more than 25 years at Oracle but departed the software company last year after reported disagreements with Oracle's leadership. Before joining Oracle, Block began his IT career at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Alex Thurber

Veteran channel executive Alex Thurber has a new home. Thurber was tapped by WatchGuard Technologies as the company's new vice president of sales for the Americas and EMEA regions. He'll be responsible for the IT security company's channel and sales strategies for the regions. Thurber most recently served as vice president of worldwide sales at Tripwire and served as head of worldwide channels at McAfee.

Todd Cione

Rackspace Hosting added Microsoft veteran Todd Cione to its executive team as senior vice president of Americas acquisition sales. Cione spent 15 years at Microsoft and most recently served as general manager of enterprise and services sales for the Asia-Pacific region. At Rackspace, Cione will be responsible directing the cloud company's sales force in the Americas.

Sandra Hill

Mitel bolstered its channel executive team with the addition of Sandra Hill as vice president of channel management and distribution for the unified communications company. Hill previously served at LifeSize Communications, the videoconferencing arm of Logitech, as senior director of Americas channels. She'll report to Joe Vitalone, Mitel's new executive vice president of sales for the Americas.

Pankaj Malhotra

ShoreTel added Pankaj Malhotra to its executive team. Malhotra will serve the unified communications vendor as senior vice president of engineering and will be responsible for the company's strategic and tactical product execution for both on-premise and cloud deployments. A 20-year technology veteran, Malhotra previously spent time at Cisco and Juniper Networks, among other IT companies.

Jerry Chen

Jerry Chen left VMware and joined venture capital firm Greylock Partners. Chen most recently spearheaded VMware's cloud and software-defined data center efforts as vice president of cloud and application services. As a partner at Greylock, Chen will focus on cloud, enterprise applications, and application infrastructure opportunities.

Bill Rielly

McAfee added former Apple executive Bill Rielly to its executive team. Rielly takes over as senior vice president of SMB at the security vendor, where he will drive McAfee's sales and marketing efforts. He formerly headed up the worldwide SMB business for Apple's online division. Prior to Apple, he held SMB roles at Microsoft.

Jim Balsillie

One of BlackBerry's former co-CEOs has taken on a new role with the Canadian government. Jim Balsillie, who stepped down as co-CEO of the company along with Mike Lazaridis last March, was appointed as chairman of Sustainable Development Technology Canada, a federal agency focused on the growth of clean energy companies in the country. Balsillie previously served as a member of the United Nations' Panel on Global Sustainability.

Rob Orr

BlackBerry executive Rob Orr left the Canadian company and joined Samsung. Orr, who most recently served as vice president and managing director of BlackBerry's U.K. and Ireland operations, will serve as vice president of Business to Business for Samsung's European Telecommunications Operations. He'll be responsible for the South Korean company's commercial mobile business in Europe.

Tod Nielsen

Former VMware executive Tod Nielsen was named Heroku's new CEO. Nielsen will focus on expanding Heroku's Platform-as-a-Service for cloud application development. He previously served as head of VMware's application platform group and was co-president of Pivotal Labs, the venture created by VMware and EMC. Nielsen also served as president and CEO of Borland Software.

Monte Ford

Akamai added longtime technology executive Monte Ford to its board of directors. Ford previously served as CEO of Aptean Software and had a lengthy career as a CIO for both AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, and Associates First Capital. He also held executive roles at Bank of Boston and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Rod Murchison

Tripwire tapped Rod Murchison as its new vice president of product management and technology alliances. Murchison, a veteran technology executive, will be responsible for the security company's product strategy and partner ecosystem. He most recently as senior vice president of engineering and product management for Boeing subsidiary Narus and held executive positions at Juniper Networks, NetScreen and Blue Coat Systems.

Peter Finter

Gigamon added ex-Juniper Networks executive Peter Finter to its executive team. Finter joins the data traffic management software maker as chief marketing officer. He most recently served as vice president of marketing at Juniper and held other executive roles at the networking company. Prior to Juniper, Finter held vice president positions at Nortel Networks.

Andy Mattes

Diebold appointed former HP executive Andy Mattes as its new president and CEO. Mattes held a number of high-level executive roles at HP, including chief sales officer and senior vice president and general manager of enterprise services, before leaving the company in 2011. He most recently served as head of global partnerships at Violin Memory and, prior to joining HP, spent several years as CEO of Siemens Information Systems.

Joseph Cowan

Joseph Cowan joined DataDirect Networks as the company's new president. Cowan will be responsible for the operational management of the storage company. He has served on DataDirect Networks' board of directors since 2011 and most recently served as president and CEO of financial services firm Online Resources Corp. Cowan also served as CEO and board member of Interwoven until its acquisition by Autonomy in 2009.

Joe Deney

Peak10 added Joe Deney to its executive team as senior vice president of customer operations. Deney will focus on driving the customer experience for the cloud infrastructure company. He most recently served as senior vice president of services and alliances at CA Technologies. Prior to his stint at CA, Deney held management positions at Savvis, including vice president of services.

Greg Goelz

Satrtup CloudByte appointed Greg Goelz as its new CEO. Goelz will be responsible for expanding the company's software-defined storage business. He most recently served as vice president and general manager of enterprise storage solutions at SanDisk. He also served as vice president of marketing at biometrics company UPEK and was vice president and general manager of workstations and Intel servers at Silicon Graphics.

Clint Heiden

EdgeConneX added Clint Heiden to its executive team as chief commercial officer. Heiden will be responsible for the sales strategy and marketing efforts of the Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider. He formerly served as president of Sidera Networks as well as president of fiber services and national accounts at telecom firm Paetec.

Irwin Federman

Mellanox Technologies has a new chairman of the board. Irwin Federman takes over as non-executive chairman of the data center solutions company. Federman has served on Mellanox's board since the company was formed in 1999. He has been a partner of venture capital firm U.S. Venture Partners for more than 20 years and serves on the boards of Check Point Software and SanDisk.

Erik Hardy

Former EMC executive Erik Hardy was appointed executive vice president of worldwide sales at Whiptail. He will lead the enterprise flash storage company's field operations team. Hardy previously served as regional vice president of North American global accounts at EMC, and most recently served as vice president of global accounts and service providers at Blue Coat Systems. He also held executive positions at Mercury Interactive Software and Xsigo.

Gerald Quindlen

Former Logitech CEO Gerald Quindlen, who stepped down from the peripheral hardware company in 2001, was appointed CEO of CableOrganizer.com, an online retailer of telecom and networking equipment. Quindlen started his career with Logitech in 2005 as senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing and became president and CEO of Logitech in 2008. He also spent 17 years at Eastman Kodak.

David Hughes

Silver Peak Systems promoted founder and chief technology officer David Hughes to CEO. Hughes, who started the WAN optimization company in 2004, succeeds former CEO Rick Tinsley. Before founding Silver Peak, Hughes served as vice president and general manager at BlueLeaf Networks. He also spent several years at Cisco in product management and technology director positions.

Gaurav Khanna

Quorum tapped Symantec executive Gaurav Khanna as its new vice president of products. Khanna will be in charge of driving the product strategy and development for Quorum's cloud backup solutions. He spent several years at Symantec and most recently served as vice president of engineering. Before Symantec, Khanna held product development roles at Nortel Networks and Tata Consultancy Services.

Michael McClurg

Actifio appointed Michael McClurg as vice president of global business partners. He will focus on the data management startup's worldwide channel relationships. McClurg most recently was vice president of sales for IBM's global midmarket and managed service provider sales team. Before IBM, he held senior-level positions at EMC and Sun Microsystems.

Marc Gordon

Good Technology added veteran technology executive Marc Gordon to its board of directors. Gordon currently serves as executive vice president and CIO of American Express. He previously served as enterprise CIO and CTO of Bank of America and held CIO roles at Best Buy and The Timberland Company. Gordon also served on the U.S. National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

Alok Ohrie

Dell tapped IBM executive Alok Ohrie to run its India business. As managing director and president of Dell India, Ohrie will focus on expanding the tech giant's footprint in the emerging market. A veteran IBM executive, Ohrie most recently served as vice president of systems and technology at IBM India. Ohrie also spent time at Wipro, AMD and EMC in various capacities.

Vivek Anand

Vaultize, an enterprise file-sharing vendor, named Vivek Anand as vice president of sales. Anand will focus on growing the company's business in emerging markets. He most recently served as head of business development at NetMagic, an NTT Communications company. Prior to NetMagic, Anand served as head of regional sales in Asia-Pacific for CommVault and held senior management roles at Veritas and Symantec.
