David Simmen
Ahana, a SQL analytics company for Presto, appointed former Apple iCloud database engineer David Simmen as chief technology officer.
“Dave has a remarkable record of innovation in distributed databases, data federation and advanced analytics. That, coupled with his over 30 years of architecting and building in the field, is nothing short of impressive,” said Steven Mih, co-founder and CEO of Ahana, in a statement. “His experience innovating distributed database technology with Splunk, Teradata and IBM provides Ahana the depth needed for truly groundbreaking development to achieve our vision of unified, federated analytics. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Dave at the helm as CTO.”
Simmen was most recently an engineer for Apple‘s iCloud database services. Prior to that, he was chief architect at Splunk and served as the company’s first fellow. Earlier in his career, he was a senior technical staff member at IBM Research, where he contributed the IBM Starburst SQL compiler and other innovations to IBM’s Db2 data management software.
