The brand's still got kick with a move 23 spaces up the Top 100 to No. 69 on a 44 percent surge in its brand value. That was also good for a two-spot move up among the most valuable tech brands.

The company's reportedly got something up its sleeve in the way of a rival to YouTube. It's due out in the summer, according to a report from industry publication AdAge.

Yahoo already showed it was serious about video and digital content programming when it unveiled a raft of new video content in April, including two original comedy shows and two series set to be anchored by Katie Couric. The company also said it formed a partnership with concert organizer Live Nation.
