It's time once again for CRN's Solution Provider 500, an annual ranking of the largest integrators, service providers and IT consultants in North America, ranked by their 2014 solution provider services revenue. Many of the companies on this year's list, which collectively generated $303.6 billion in revenue in 2014, continue to thrive in an IT industry that's undergoing massive changes fueled by cloud, mobility and big data technologies.

50. Intelligent Decisions

2014 Rank: 61

Top Executive: Joe Armstrong, President & CFO

Intelligent Decisions jumped from No. 61 to No. 50 on this year's SP 500 list. The Ashburn, Va.-based federal VAR specializes in cyber security, application development, cloud services and networking. It inked some solid wins in 2014, including a multi-year contract with the Department of Commerce valued at up to $150 million. The company also nabbed the Dell PartnerDirect Federal Partner of the Year award in the fall. It wasn't all rosy, though. Intelligent Decisions was caught up in a Justice Department investigation over gratuities paid to a federal contracting official. As part of the fallout, Harry Martin resigned his post as president and CEO in October and later pled guilty to the charges. The company also paid a $300,000 criminal penalty.

49. Red River

Red River exploded up the SP 500 list this year, rocketing from No. 178 last year to No. 49 in 2015. In 2014, the company was awarded contracts with NASA and the Office of U.S. Courts, a blanket purchasing agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce, and a five-year enterprise services agreement with Department of Veterans Affairs.

48. Slalom Consulting

Slalom Consulting leapfrogged from No. 60 to No. 48 in the CRN SP 500 as the $570 million company grew profits by more than 40 percent in 2014. The Seattle-based company opened new offices in Houston, London, Phoenix and the Silicon Valley in 2014, and plans to open offices in Toronto and Philadelphia this year. The 3,000-person company made a record 1,100 new hires in 2014. Slalom has also deepened its relationship with vendors in 2014, becoming an Amazon Web Services Premier partner, Gold Salesforce.com partner and Microsoft Alliance partner.

FusionStorm had many honors bestowed on it by vendors, winning Dell's SMB Partner of the Year award in 2013 and 2014 and earning recognition as Cisco's West Region Partner of the Year in May. The data center services and systems integration firm also bolstered its cloud offering in June 2014 with the integration of Peak's cloud infrastructure and NetApp's storage platform into the underpinnings of its cloud computing service.

46. AVI-SPL

AVI-SPL cracked the top 50 of the SP 500 after barely missing the cut last year. The Tampa, Fla.-based VAR jumped from No. 51 last year to No. 46 this year. AVI-SPL specializes in audio and video enterprise communications solutions. Over the last two years, the company has been expanding its global presence into Europe in addition to broadening its portfolio to feature more cloud-based communications solutions and software.

45. General Datatech (GDT)

General Datatech (GDT) has invested heavily in facilities, purchasing 90,000 square feet near its Dallas campus and opening offices around Austin, Boston, El Paso, San Antonio and San Francisco. GDT saw 58 percent growth in service provider technologies in 2013 and 2014, a 35 percent growth in personnel, and expanded its operations to include a lab for innovation and development as well as a site for manufacturing fiber optic and copper cable assemblies. GDT also hired John J. Roger - who worked previously at Pivot Technology Solutions - as its first ever chief operating officer.

An MSP specializing in data center and cloud services, Pomeroy last fall expanded its Microsoft partnership by joining the company's Microsoft Devices Program, making it one of a limited number of solution providers that can resell Microsoft Surface tablets. Additionally, Pomeroy joined the Google For Work partner program, allowing the company to provide Google apps to its enterprise clients.

43. Datalink

Datalink jumped up four spots as its 2014 sales increased by 6.1 percent to a record $630.2 million, while net earnings climbed by 10.3 percent to $11.1 million over the previous year. It bought Bear Data Solutions for $18.5 million in October as part of an effort to expand Datalink's West Coast operations and Cisco expertise. Datalink is also moving into consulting in a big way, growing its practice over the past year from scratch to 110 employees, accounting for 5 percent to 7 percent of the company's annual revenue.

EPAM Systems' revenue for 2014 climbed more than 31 percent to $730 million, growth the company said can be attributed in part to its transformation from a pure software engineering outsourcing firm to a solution provider with well-balanced capabilities including digital strategy and managed services.

The Chantilly, Va.-based solution provider is a government-focused company specializing in data center, cyber security, networking and managed services. October 2014, the company was among 200 recipients awarded a piece of a 10-year, $20 billion Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement V contract from NASA. It also earned Cisco's Cloud Master Service Provider Certification at the beginning of 2014, the networking vendor's highest-level cloud and managed services certification.

For SS&C, "2014 was an exceptional year," said Chairman and CEO Bill Stone in a statement disclosing its full-year financial results, including revenue that climbed nearly 8 percent to $767.9 million. In April, 2014, the company, which specializes in services for the investment and financial services vertical, launched its REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) servicing group to target solutions to that market, and in December expanded its portfolio with the $95 million acquisition of accounting and data analytics vendor DST Global Solutions.

37. Ciber

Ciber boosted its position on the SP 500 by one notch despite a 2 percent decline in 2014 sales to $863.6 million and a net loss of $19.6 million for the year. The company changed CEOs midway through 2014, with former Contact Solutions CEO Michael Boustridge taking over from David Peterschmidt, who retired. In Boustridge's first couple of months, Ciber implemented a $27 million restructuring plan, which included laying off 280 people, or 4 percent of its workforce.

36. Syntel

Syntel's sales increased 11 percent to $911.4 million and earnings climbed 13.7 percent to $249.7 million. The company's success has attracted suitors according to a report last month that business process outsourcing firm Genpact and its principal shareholder, private equity giant Bain Capital, are examining an acquisition of Syntel to bolster their IT services and automation capabilities. Syntel recently introduced a robotic automation platform that can lower business operations costs for end users by 30 percent and downtime by roughly 30 percent by eliminating repetitive manual processes.

35. DLT Solutions

Federal VAR DLT Solutions jumped up four spots to No. 35. It garnered awards throughout the year from several of its vendor partners, including Google and Red Hat. In October 2014, the VAR was awarded a piece of a $20 billion, 10-year SEWP V contract from NASA, which is shared among 200 companies. It closed out 2014 by being named a 2015 Amazon Premier Consulting Partner. In February 2015, DLT Solutions was acquired by private equity firm Millstein & Co. Alan Marc Smith was named CEO as part of the acquisition and told CRN in February that he had no intentions for a major overhaul.

34. Black Box Network Services

Black Box's fiscal 2014 revenue dropped 3 percent to $971.7 million, down from $997.8 million the year before. The company said it initiated a number of programs throughout the year "to build more flexible and scalable product and service platforms." The company has also made investments in its Cisco business and its wireless solutions business as well significant growth in its contract with an unidentified managed services customer.

33. Forsythe

2014 Rank: 32

Top Executive: William Brennan, President and CEO

Forsythe Technology, a $1 billion employee-owned infrastructure integrator, specializes in data center operations and managed security services. The company won a number of awards from its vendor partners, including Oracle's 2014 Excellence Award for Specialized Partner of the Year - North America in Engineered Systems. In November, Forsythe was named to Gartner's Magic Quadrant for integrated IT portfolio analysis applications for its KillerIT cloud solution. The company says the application allows customers to "clean up" their portfolio and prioritize their business assets.

32. ePlus Technology

ePlus has jumped from 36 to 32 on the SP 500 this year. The Herndon, Va.-based IT consulting firm reported net sales of $1.06 billion for fiscal 2014, up from $983.1 million the prior year. ePlus continued investing in its already extensive managed services practice last year, opening its third and largest managed services center in Raleigh, N.C. in February, 2014.

31. EarthLink

2014 Rank: 30

Top Executive: Joseph Eazor, President & CEO

The Atlanta-based IT services, network and communications provider dropped one spot in the SP 500, mirroring the company's dip in revenue. EarthLink reported $1.18 billion in revenue for 2014, down from $1.24 billion the year prior. The company said during its end-of-year earnings call that it has been investing in and building its managed services business as the industry transitions.

30. Zones

2014 Rank: 31

Top Executive: Murray Wright, President & CEO

Zones has invested heavily in the Internet of Things, selling it horizontally across a multitude of solutions and creating a global practice that caters to different verticals. It made a number of executive moves in early 2015, including replacing Tom Ducatelli - who stepped down as executive vice president of sales and business development in late January - with 15-year company veteran Dominic Camden. Zones also brought in Jon Allen from Carbonite and Todd Leeson from Absolute Software to serve as vice presidents of cloud and software, respectively.

29. PCM

2014 Rank: 27

Top Executive: Frank Khulusi, President & CEO

PCM tumbled from No. 27 to No. 29 in the CRN SP 500 as full-year revenue remained flat at $1.36 billion and net income sunk nearly 33 percent to $5.5 million. The company made big investments, starting in November with the hiring of longtime Ingram Micro executive Jay Miley to fill the newly-created position of president. PCM made an ever bigger splash in March when it acquired the assets of En Pointe Technologies, No. 42 on the 2014 CRN SP 500, for $15 million. En Pointe was one of Microsoft's largest licensing solution providers in the country, and the deal provides PCM with technical expertise, geographic reach and an expanded client base.

28. Sirius Computer Solutions

Sirius Computer Solutions held steady at No. 28 as its 2014 sales climbed to $1.4 billion up from $1.2 billion. The company has carried out two acquisitions in recent months, picking up virtualization and cloud solution provider Varrow in April and 60-person analytics firm Brightlight Consulting last October. Varrow provided Sirius with an increased presence on the East Coast and technical skills on VMware and Citrix, CEO Joe Mertens said. Sirius in April was named Cisco's Partner of the Year for the U.S. Central Region and earned a Cisco U.S. national award for architectural excellence in data center.

27. Logicalis

Logicalis brought in revenue of $1.55 billion in 2014, up from $1.35 billion in 2013. The company's US office launched Optimal Service Management, offering managed services to companies across the globe. Logicalis also named Jim Reichwein as its senior vice president of sales and marketing.

26. Accuvant and Fishnet Security

The world's two largest security solution providers – Accuvant of Denver, No. 48 on the 2014 CRN SP 500, and FishNet Security of Overland Park, Kansas, No. 46 on the 2014 CRN SP 500 – agreed to join forces in November, 2014, and closed their merger in February. The colossal deal created a $1.5 billion security behemoth with 1,500 employees and 60 offices across the U.S. and Canada. The companies decided to go to market with a new name – Optiv Security – which will be officially adopted this summer. The company is expecting to add 400 new employees this year and sales and profit growth of well over 20 percent.

25. Softchoice

Top Executive: David MacDonald, President & CEO

The Toronto-based company jumped eight spots on this year's list and in 2014 earned the Top Growth Partner -- Direct Response Channel Award for HP Storage. In April, Softchoice appointed Steven Gaeta as its new vice president of sales, U.S. East, and in October was awarded a ten year contract under the NASA Solutions for Enterprise-wide Procurement V Program.

24. ManTech

Top Executive: George Pedersen, Chairman & CEO

ManTech dropped three spots in this year's list as the federal VAR, coinciding with a 23 percent decline in revenue in 2014, which dipped to $1.77 billion, down from $2.31 billion the prior year. ManTech cited reduced requirements for support to the U.S. Army in Afghanistan as a primary reason for the sales decline.

23. Avanade

2014 Rank: 34

Top Executive: Adam Warby, CEO

Avanade jumped up 11 spots in the rankings as its annual sales climbed above $2 billion. The Seattle-based company, which was formed in 2000 as a joint venture of Accenture and Microsoft, achieved Microsoft's Alliance Partner of the Year award from Microsoft for the eighth time. Avanade has been engaging and selling more to line-of-business executives as cloud and software-as-a-service have made it possible for departments to implement new technology without getting IT involved, North American president Aziz Virani recently told CRN.

22. Carahsoft

Top Executive: Craig Abod, President

Carahsoft, a $2.2 billion federal system integrator and distributor, has set itself up nicely for 2015, scoring multiple big contract wins towards the end of 2014, including two five-year contracts under NASA SEWP V. In March, the company earned HP's HP PartnerOne Award for Software Growth Reseller of the Year.

21. Presidio

2014 Rank: 22

Top Executive: Bob Cagnazzi, President & CEO

Location: Greenbelt, Md.

Rumors swirled around privately-held Presidio throughout 2014 that it would possibly be sold or go public, but in December, the Greenbelt, Md.-based company disclosed its sale to private equity firm Apollo Global. Presidio was bought for an undisclosed amount from private equity firm American Securities.

20. PC Connection

Top Executive: Timothy McGrath, President & CEO

PC Connection grew its 2014 sales to $2.46 billion, up nearly 11 percent compared to 2013. "Our industry had a tailwind from the expiration of [Microsoft] Windows XP and from the robust overall spending by corporate and educational customers. We benefited from those trends, and we were able to grow significantly faster than the overall market by taking market share from the competition and the VAR community," said CEO Timothy McGrath during a conference call in January disclosing the company's fourth-quarter financial results.

19. Unisys Corporation

2014 Rank: 17

Top Executive: Peter Altabef, President & CEO

Unisys's U.S. Federal business saw strong growth in the fourth quarter, which contributed to the 1 percent revenue growth the company saw in U.S. and Canada for 2014, but overall revenue for the year dropped 3 percent to $3.36 billion, down from $3.46 billion in 2013. Unisys brought in former Dell Services exec Peter Altabef as its new president and CEO in January, replacing Ed Coleman. Altabef is now orchestrating a $300 million restructuring that will result in layoffs for more than 1,800 employees, or 8 percent of its workforce.

18. Deloitte

Deloitte CEO Joe Echavarria retired in August. The company named an interim CEO before finally appointing Catherine Engelbert as its new top executive in in February. Meanwhile, Deloitte's global technology consulting business grew 10.3 percent in 2014 compared to the prior year.

17. Systemax

2014 Rank: 19

Top Executive: Richard Leeds, Chairman & CEO

Systemax reported revenue of $3.44 billion in fiscal 2014, up from $3.35 billion the prior year. In March the company said it plans to increase its focus on business-to-business and public sector customers, while at the same time pulling out of its retail store operations, closing a distribution center and cutting staff.

16. CACI

2014 Rank: 16

Top Executive: Kenneth Asbury, President & CEO

Location: Arlington, VA

CACI brought in sales of $3.56 billion in fiscal 2014, a drop of over 3 percent from fiscal 2013, when the company reported $3.68 billion in revenue. It finished off the year by locking down $1.88 billion in contract awards during the fourth calendar quarter of 2014, up 162 percent from the same quarter the prior year.

15. CGI

2014 Rank: 9

Top Executive: Michael Roach, President & CEO

Location: Montreal

CGI fell six spots to No. 15 on this year's SP 500. The company spent the early part of 2014 dealing with fallout from the troubled Healthcare.gov web site launch from the previous fall. The Montreal-based company reported $3.58 billion (converted to USD) in North America revenue for fiscal 2014.

14. SoftwareONE

2014 Rank: 20

Top Executive: Patrick Winter, President & CEO

SoftwareONE jumped six spots to land at No. 14 this year and is poised to climb further after acquiring the software business of CompuCom, No. 23 on the 2014 SP 500, in April. CompuCom was one of only around 15 Microsoft Licensing Solution Providers (LSPs) in the country. SoftwareONE also assumed responsibility for all of CompuCom's contract management and software portfolio services outside of Microsoft, as well as its sales and operations offices in Dallas, Canada and Mexico, which collectively had around 120 employees.

13. Insight Enterprises

2014 Rank: 14

Top Executive: Kenneth Lamneck, President & CEO

Sales for Insight Enterprises grew 3 percent in fiscal 2014 to $5.32 billion, up from $5.14 billion in 2013. More recently, the company has been hit hard by changes to Microsoft's partner compensation model related to cuts to cloud sales commissions and Office 365 incentive fees. Specifically, the changes reduced gross profits for Insight's North American software business by $11 million to $14 million in 2014 and are slated to be an additional $5 million to $10 million drag on profits in 2015. CEO Ken Lamneck told CRN last month that activity around the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 refresh has been slower than expected thus far.

12. SHI

2014 Rank: 15

Top Executive: Thai Lee, President & CEO

SHI reported brought in a record $6 billion in revenue in 2014 and also hired more than 350 employees throughout the year, bringing its total workforce to more than 2,800 employees, the most it has ever had. The company said its corporate and public sectors sales divisions grew at 30 percent and 18 percent year-over-year, respectively. Those sales divisions are among four that exceed $1 billion in revenue. The other two are its strategic and commercial enterprise sales organizations.

11. World Wide Technology (WWT)

2014 Rank: 12

Top Executive: James Kavanaugh, CEO

WWT grew revenue to $6.7 billion in 2014, up from $6.4 billion in 2013. The St. Louis-based Cisco Gold partner spent $50 million between 2011 and 2014 building out labs for integrated architectures and grew its workforce by some 600 employees throughout 2014. WWT says it has gained a lot of traction consulting with customers on cloud architecture issues and helping large enterprises bring onc- public workloads back in-house.

10. Dimension Data

2014 Rank: 13

Top Executive: Mark Slaga, CEO, Americas

Dimension Data grew its North American business organically by more than 20 percent in 2014. The company's five-year goal is to go from $1 billion to $3 billion in Americas revenue, and this year, the first year of the goal, the solution provider closed out the year with $1.5 billion in annual revenue.

"It was a great year," said Dimension Data Americas CEO Mark Slaga. "Congratulations are owed to our teams and to our great clients and partners."

One of the highlights of the year: Dimension Data's blockbuster acquisition in April of Nexus, a $471 million solution provider. The Nexus acquisition nearly doubled Dimension Data's footprint in the U.S.

9. Dell Services

Top Executive: Michael Dell, CEO

Location: Round Rock, Texas

One of the largest services provider in the health care industry, Dell Services recently achieved highly coveted certifications from medical software applications provider MediTech including MediTech Hosting Solution Best Practice classification. Dell is only one of nine North American companies certified as Meditech Ready.

Dell was recognized with an award for using social media to improve Health Care Service Corporation's (HCSC) ability to field customer service issues. The Dell services offering enabled HCSC, the largest customer owned health care insurance agency in the US, to go from fielding just 100 social media issues a month to 2,000.

8. Cognizant

This Teaneck N.J.-based company's acquisition of healthcare IT solution provider TriZetto paid off in a big sales gains. For the full year, Cognizant's health-care vertical grew 18.7 percent to $2.7 billion, representing 26.2 percent of Cognizant's overall sales, second only to financial services. Cognizant's financial services business, meanwhile, grew 15.3 percent for the full year to $4.3 billion.

Cognizant was recognized as a "leader" in market researcher Forrester's "Wave" global commerce service provider report focused on the best partners to help accelerate digital transformation. What's more, Cognizant was recognized as a leader in market researcher Ovum's Decision Matrix on Outsourced Testing Service Providers.

7. Xerox Global Services

Xerox sold its IT outsourcing business to France-based IT services company Atos for $1.05 billion. That opened the door, the company says, to focus on its business process and document outsourcing businesses within its services operations.

A leading healthcare services provider, Xerox acquired Health Communities Institute, a Berkely, Cal. cloud based database of patient healthcare information, providing customers with technology aimed at identifying at risk populations. Xerox also was the winner of a $564.9 million five year contract providing its Health Enterprise solution to the New York State Department of Health.

6. CDW

2014 Rank: 8

Powered by its technology savvy sales team, CDW reported a 12 percent increase in sales for 2014 to $12.07 billion. The Vernon Hills, Ill.-based company also broke into the international market for the first time with a deal in November to acquire a stake in Kelway, an $850 million, London-based solution provider.

CDW also continues to make progress growing its professional services and managed services business which accounted for just three percent of sales for 2014.

5. CSC

The Falls Church, Va., company announced in May that it is splitting into two separate businesses effective Oct. 25:, a 51,000-employee, $8.1 billion entity with focused on commercial clients and a 14,000-employee, $4.1 billion entity focused on U.S. public sector offerings.

The new Global Commercial Unit will have more than 1,000 customers -- including 175 of the Fortune 500 -- across 70 countries and 34 delivery centers around the globe.

The new U.S. Public Sector unit, which includes 3,500 military veterans -- will be the third-largest IT provider to the federal government.

Tata Consultancy Services reported a 15 percent increase in sales to $15.45 billion for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2015. The Mumbai, India-based company's net profits soared by 12.8 percent to $3.54 billion. Tata added nearly 19,000 employees over the past year, getting its headcount to nearly 320,000. Tata said its growth in recent months has been driven by global consulting, asset-leveraged solutions, infrastructure services and assurance services.

Tata was ranked as the 57th leading brand in the US by Brand Finance in an annual Top 500 US brands survey. It marks the first time Tata has made the top 100 brands list.

Hewlett-Packard's Enterprise Services revenue declined seven percent to $22.39 billion for HP's fiscal year 2014 ended Oct. 31, 2014. The company's infrastructure technology outsourcing business dropped eight percent for the fiscal year to $14.03 billion.

One of the highlights for the HP Enterprise Services Group: an impressive multibillion-dollar, 10-year hosting and outsourcing agreement with German global banking behemoth Deutsche Bank. The services-led deal, which was was two years in the making, represented a companywide effort that included HP's Helion cloud business and the enterprise group.

Accenture's sales were up five percent to $30 billion for its fiscal year ended Aug. 31,, 2014, with new bookings hitting a record $35.9 billion. Outsourcing sales were up eight percent for the fiscal year to $14.3 billion.

Accenture Chairman and CEO Nanterme says the company is investing in strengthening its industry expertise and moving aggressively to differentiate itself across the board against competitors with "strategy, digital, technology and operations."

In February, Accenture acquired Agilex Technologies, a provider of digital technologies to the federal government.

1. IBM Global Services

IBM Global Services makes up the Global Business Services and Global Technology Services segments of IBM. Together, the Armonk, N.Y.-based company is the largest service provider on the planet, pulling in over $54.9 billion in revenue in 2014.

That said, the Global Business Services business dropped four percent in 2014 to $37.13 billion, while the Technology Services business dropped three percent to $17.82 billion.

One of the highlights of the year for IBM Global Services -- a blockbuster deal to deliver enterprise focused mobile applications for Apple's iOS. The first wave of apps -- targeted at security and big data -- hit the market in late 2014.
