“I think the biggest challenge is going to be talent and hiring. That’s probably the largest challenge that any business is facing. But it’s impacting the managed service providers a lot. Technical talent is impossible to come by. ‘Warm fuzzy’ technical talent is even harder to come by, and that’s kind of what we try to specialize in--is that ‘warm fuzzy’ user experience. That’s when you call your tech person and you feel good about it, you don’t feel stupid calling your tech person.
That was hard to come by before [the current talent shortage]. And now that’s even harder to come by. We’re usually looking for Level 2, Level 3 support people, escalation engineers, even some project engineers. But any of that talent with experience is really hard to come by. And any of the Level 1 talent is really green.
We’re still trying to stay local and in the office. We can technically hire anybody from anywhere in the world. But if we go down that route, we’re keeping that to our higher level engineering staff and support staff--people that have that experience and discipline. So [because of needing to hire locally], our talent pool is even narrower.”
