Data Center Systems: Conservative Growth Forecast
Data center spending fell 2.7 percent in 2019 over 2018 but is expected to rise by 1.9 percent in 2020 and 1.5 percent in 2021, Gartner said. This includes spending on such equipment as servers, storage, networking and unified communications.
Gartner’s Lovelock said the expected rise in data center system spending in 2020 was caused by a widespread deferral in such spending in 2019. "That's why 2021 spending looks like a decline in growth," he said.
Server spending peaked at $82 billion in 2018, Lovelock said. "We don't see that spending ever recovering to that point," he said.
