Gartner Says 2019 Global IT Spending Will Grow To $3.8 Trillion. Here’s How It Breaks Down

Gartner gave forecasts for five categories of global IT spending, with the smallest category showing the highest growth and vice versa.

Spending on IT services is forecast to be just over $1 trillion in 2019, up about 4.7 percent over 2018 IT services spending, Gartner estimates.

The key driver of this growth is an expected slowing of economic prosperity worldwide combined with pressures to reduce spending. That, Gartner said, is pushing businesses to take advantage of external IT business services including consulting. The analyst firm in a separate study found that 46 percent of organizations ranked IT services and IT supplier consolidation among their top-three cost-optimization approaches.
