Gartner estimated enterprise software spending to be the fastest-growing segment of worldwide IT spending, with a growth rate of 8.3 percent to take it to $439 billion, with software as a service and the cloud leading the way.

The increasing reliance on SaaS comes from a focus on customer relationship management as businesses look for ways to improve customer experiences, Gartner said. That will help propel spending on cloud-focused software by 22 percent between 2018 and 2019, compared to 6 percent for other software.

Gartner also said to expect cybersecurity software to be a big focus in 2019 based on a separate study that showed that 88 percent of global chief information officers have deployed or plan to deploy cybersecurity and related software in the next 12 months.
