Data Center Systems

While hardware is the base on which data centers are built, data center systems remains the both the smallest of the five major categories of global IT spending, and the one with nearly the smallest growth rate.

Gartner said IT spending on the data center systems category is expected to grow 6 percent year-over-year this year over last year. That growth in data center systems spending stems from a healthy server business, which Gartner estimates will grow in 2018 by about 10 percent over that of 2017. However, Gartner expects the server business next year to return to the contraction it has experienced in the last few years, with sales of servers falling by 1 percent to 3 percent per year over the next five years. This will result in data center system spending to grow a mere 1.6 percent in 2019 to $195 billion.
