10 AWS Channel Issues Raised By Partners
Amazon Web Services partners told CRN they would like to see the cloud computing market leader address a number of pressing issues, including channel conflict with AWS Professional Services consultants, a framework for smaller partners to engage with AWS and escalation issues that are impacting partners.
A smaller MSP wondered if AWS could add a second validated MSP tier for smaller partners serving small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). The partner said they’re doing the same thing as larger validated MSPs – albeit maybe not with enterprises — but they don’t have any badge or something to show for it. ( AWS’ MSP Program is open to AWS Advanced and Premier Tier Consulting Partners, and not smaller Select Consulting Partners.)
It’s a good push. I have not thought about whether or not it makes sense for us to have a different tier of MSP validation for smaller partners. Regardless of the size of (a customer) — whether they’re an SMB or enterprise customer — you do want to work with a partner or a managed service provider who will make sure that they understand the security related to managing the AWS platform or all the governance and compliance issues, being able to cost-optimize, being able to focus on deploying something that’s resilient and performant. Those are all things that are really important for any customer.
Regardless of the customer segment that you’re serving, we do think that there is a bar for what it means to be an MSP partner for AWS. But maybe there are cases where some of the smaller partners are saying, “The requirements that you have —could it be different for some of the smaller-size MSPs?” I guess it’s a maybe, and maybe what we need to do is just take that feedback and go take a look at it and see if we can do something that not only preserves the level of service that our SMB customers need, but at the same time meets the requirements of…the smaller size partners. It’s good feedback, and…we should look at it.
