Salesforce Debuts Analytics Platform

The CRM leader has repeatedly one-upped itself on the M&A market in recent years, executing ever-larger acquisitions that have laid the groundwork for entirely new products. ExactTarget and Demandware yielded Marketing Cloud and Commerce Cloud respectively, and more recently, MuleSoft delivered the integration capabilities central to Salesforce's Customer 360 vision.

Even Salesforce's Einstein AI platform, while in many ways an organically developed product, was underpinned by deals for RelateIQ, MetaMind, Implisit, PredictionIO and Tempo.

Last year, the acquisition theme was analytics. Not only did Salesforce pull off the largest deal in its history when it bought Tableau for $15.7 billion, but on a smaller scale the company boosted its analytics chops with Datorama.

Salesforce is infusing those technologies across the portfolio. It might also integrate them into some flashy new data-focused SaaS product.
