Here are 10 educated guesses on big moves we'll see this year from the cloud industry's biggest players as they look to seize the high ground of disruption.

AWS, Microsoft Introduce Hybrid Kubernetes Services

The two largest public cloud providers both offer highly capable managed Kubernetes platforms. But Amazon EKS and Microsoft AKS are still turfed on their own cloud instances.

Both providers clearly recognize the game is changing to hybrid, and they see competitors using Kubernetes as a bridge on which to invade enemy turf.

Google and VMware, in particular, have gone far to decouple Kubernetes from their own platforms. Google's Anthos, and the coming VMware Tanzu service, can stretch across on-prem, AWS and Microsoft Azure to enable hybrid and multi-cloud application deployment.

It might have not been there preference, but it doesn't seem unlikely that Amazon or Microsoft will extend EKS and AKS beyond their own clouds this year.
