Here are a variety of ways solution providers can help their employees and their customers safely get through the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Jerry Pape, principle at Excalibur, a Bozeman, Mont.-based solution provider and MSP, told CRN that it is still important to visit customers face-to-face but how IT companies visit customers has to change.

"I've given each of our people a box of nitrile gloves which reminds them to not touch their face," Pape said. "And I tell them to change gloves every time they visit a different client."

Despite the need for social distancing, there are still the occasional situation where sending someone on-site to help clients with deployments or issues. In those cases, forget sending a team. Just send one person, hopefully someone who knows how serious COVID-19 is.

That engineer or technician should be very clear about how to work in client environments during the pandemic, and do things like wear a mask and gloves at a minimum, and carefully cleaning the worksite before and after the job. And, of course, keep the client's family members out of the room.
