Public Cloud Repatriation Is On The Rise

The race to put data and workloads into the cloud that seemed like a stampede two years ago has begun to ebb, and even pull back with some customers moving some public cloud workloads back on premise, senior distribution executives told CRN.

Clients with strict security and compliance regimens are falling in love again with on-premise storage solutions for their most sensitive data, while still relying on the cloud for its scalability and flexibility around software and platform solutions.

“We've gotten that feedback from our solution providers where- If you look at some of our larger vendors may have had off years the past couple of years in terms of the volumes that we're traditionally used to and then this past year to two years, it's exploded again,” Kevin Kennedy, senior vice president of advanced solutions with Tech Data said. “Part of is the swing of applications being brought back on-prem, either due to cost or security scares.”
