Shaking Up The Cloud Market

Google Cloud plans to add startup Alooma’s data migration pipeline tool to its arsenal as it seeks to boost its standing against industry leaders Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

The proposed acquisition of the Redwood, Calif.-based Alooma, announced Tuesday, is designed to help No. 3 Google Cloud increase its market share by making it easier for enterprises to move their data to its platform. Alooma's big competitive advantage is its ability to quickly migrate data from "various data silos" into a single data warehouse in real time.

Alooma, which has a long-standing partnership with Google Cloud, already has several Google Cloud native integrations in addition to Google Cloud Platform’s BigQuery. They include Google Ads, Google Analytics and Cloud Spanner

“Joining Google Cloud will bring us one step closer to delivering a full self-service database migration experience bolstered by the power of their cloud technology, including analytics, security, AI, and machine learning,” Alooma cofounders Yoni Broyde and Yair Weinberger said in a blog post on Tuesday.
