HPE Big Data VP On BlueData Deal, Dell EMC And The ‘Huge’ AI Opportunity

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Vice President of Big Data Patrick Osborne speaks with CRN about the acquisition of BlueData and the ‘huge’ opportunity ahead for partners focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics solutions.

What are you offering right now with BlueData with Apollo and big data as a service?

We have a number of flexible capacity models. I just did a presentation here in Madrid at Discover with our head of IT and global operations for HPE. We do our own digital transformation here. We certainly use our own products. We use the same reference architecture that we sell and enable customers with through Pointnext. So we have got our elastic platform for analytics, a number of reference architectures.

We certainly sell our solutions today through the Flexible Capacity model. When we close this deal for BlueData and integrate it, we can take that to the next mile. BlueData is a multitenant architecture. It is multi-cloud with the ability to run workloads on-prem and off-prem. So it gives us the ability to provide a very, very robust service for our customers in the future.

Will BlueData be put across the entire HPE infrastructure portfolio from Synergy to ProLiant with an AI, machine learning, big data layer to the software-defined infrastructure?

We want our infrastructure and solutions to be AIOps-driven. We want to make it very easy for customers to use and scale. We want to make and offer all our solutions as cloud-ready. We are definitely focused on multi-cloud, and that is where BlueData fits in. And we want to offer all of our products and solutions as a service. I can't comment specifically on the road map for platforms because we haven't closed the deal yet.
