Anthos

Anthos is Google Cloud’s new hybrid and multi-cloud platform service that allows customers to deploy their workloads across their on-premise data centers and Google Cloud in addition to third-party competitors’ clouds, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

The software-based Anthos, which is fully managed by Google, is built on Google Kubernetes Engine, Google’s managed Kubernetes service, and other open-source technologies spearheaded by the tech giant, including Istio and Knative.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian announced the general availability of the hyperscale cloud provider’s new open-standard offering – a rebranding of the Google Cloud Service hybrid cloud platform revealed in 2018, but with the added multi-cloud support – at Google Next ’19 in San Francisco in April as part of his push for enterprise customers that want to “write once, run anywhere.”
