Teams Updates

Microsoft announced at Inspire that its Teams workplace collaboration app now has 13 million daily active users. It's the first disclosure of daily usage metrics for the Teams app, which launched two years ago and competes first and foremost with Slack (which reported having 10 million daily active users as of late January).

Microsoft also unveiled new Teams features at Inspire including announcements (for drawing attention to a particularly important news in a channel); channel cross-posting (for posting a message into multiple channels and different teams simultaneously); priority notifications (which alert recipients to messages that are time sensitive); and the addition of moderators to manage posting in a channel.

Meanwhile, Microsoft said it is also looking to better support partners in helping customers move to Teams, with the debut of a new partner-led Teams trial. Microsoft 365 partners will be able to launch six-month trials providing Teams for customers that only use Exchange Online, as well as non-cloud customers. The trial will be available through CSP partners as of Aug. 1, Microsoft said.
