An Unforgettable Year For Intel
2021 was a bigger year than usual for Intel for multiple reasons: new CEO, new manufacturing strategy, new business units and a new CPU architecture, just to name a few.
In recent years, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker has faced increased competition from AMD, Nvidia and companies like Amazon and Apple that are taking advantage of alternative architectures like Arm. What has aided the competition are chip foundries like TSMC and Samsung, both of which have gained an edge over Intel in next-generation chip manufacturing capabilities.

What follows are the 10 biggest Intel news stories of 2021, which includes developments around Gelsinger’s appointment as CEO as well as big changes to the company’s product portfolio, strategy, leadership and organizational structure.
