The 5 Top-Selling Monitor Brands Of Q4 2018

Monitors To Consider

HP Inc. and Dell stayed well ahead of the pack in the market for PC monitors during the final quarter of 2018, in terms of sales through the indirect channel. That's according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. HP and Dell were the manufacturers behind nine of the top 10 best-selling monitors during Q4, the firm reports. The NPD Group tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT indirect channel and resellers in North America, down to the item level and with overlap removed. The biggest growth during the recent quarter went to Dell, which was the only one of the five biggest vendors to expand its share of monitor sales through the indirect channel.

In the following slides are details on the five top-selling PC monitor vendors in Q4 of 2018, based on The NPD Group's data.

5. Samsung

In terms of monitor sales through the indirect channel, South Korea-based Samsung declined to a market share of 6.5 percent in Q4 from 9.4 percent during the same period the year before, dropping into fifth place from fourth place a year ago.

Key offerings in Samsung's business monitors lineup include the SH850 Series 23.8-inch model (S24H850QFN), which features QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution for the display, up to 300 nits of brightness and slim bezels around the screen. The monitor also includes USB-C connectivity for connecting the display to a PC, as well as data transfer and charging of devices.

4. Viewsonic

Coming in fourth place is Brea, Calif.-based Viewsonic, though the company saw its share of monitor sales through the indirect channel slip to 6.6 percent in the fourth quarter, down from 7.3 percent a year earlier. Among the key PC monitors in Viewsonic's portfolio for professionals and enterprises is the VP3881 (pictured), a 37.5-inch curved screen display with WQHD (3,840 x 1,600) resolution and a wide 21:9 aspect ratio.

3. Lenovo

For China-based Lenovo—like all of the top monitor vendors except for Dell—share of the market for monitor sales through the indirect channel fell during the fourth quarter. In Lenovo's case, the drop was modest, with the company falling to a 7.7 percent share in Q4 compared to 8.6 percent the year before.

Lenovo's best-selling monitor through the indirect channel during the quarter was the ThinkVision T24i, according to The NPD Group data. The 23.8-inch IPS monitor is highly adjustable and features FHD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution, up to 250 nits of brightness and a slim bezel around the display.

2. Dell

Dell was the big winner on PC monitor sales through the indirect channel during the fourth quarter, with the Round Rock, Texas-based company achieving the only share gains in the market of the five major manufacturers, according to The NPD Group. Dell saw its market share climb to 24.6 percent during the quarter, up from 19.2 percent during the same period a year earlier, the research group reported.

Dell had three of the 10 best-selling monitor models through the indirect channel during the quarter, according to The NPD Group. The company's best seller was the P2417H, a 23.8-inch monitor featuring FHD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution, a thin bezel around the screen and up to 250 nits of brightness.

1. HP Inc.

While HP Inc. did expand its sales of PC monitors through the indirect channel during the fourth quarter, the growth was not enough to keep from losing share in the face of stronger growth at Dell, according to The NPD Group. HP's share in the market for monitor sales through the indirect channel slipped to 28.5 percent during the quarter, from 29.4 percent a year earlier.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP had six of the 10 best-selling monitors in terms of distributor sales during Q4, The NPD Group reported. The No. 1 best seller was the EliteDisplay E243, a 23.8-inch monitor offering FHD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution and featuring a slim bezel on three sides; VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, as well as two USB-A ports; and up to 250 nits of brightness. The monitor also provides a high degree of adjustability with options to tilt and swivel the screen, as well as adjust the screen height within a range of 5.9 inches.
