Xerox Is Shrinking Its Real Estate Footprint

Xerox rebranded its Global Imaging Systems unit as Xerox Business Solutions in January, with CEO John Visentin also announcing that the company would transfer 28,000 smaller government contracts into that business, and turn it into the company’s “SMB channel” for North America.

The XBS unit is responsible for 22-percent of the overall sales for Xerox, with 37 percent coming from VARs and another 41 from direct sales.

During an investor’s day earlier this month, the company said it is increasing the size of the XBS sales force as part of its three-year growth plan, which also includes acquiring more independent dealers, and boosting the XBS unit’s IT services business offerings.

However, days after his announcement that XBS was growing, sources told CRN that Xerox began quietly making plans to shrink the XBS real estate footprint.

As a part of that contraction, the sources said there will be layoffs. How many and how widespread have not yet been disclosed.
