Cracks In The Relationship

Shortly after VCE was established, Cisco surprised the industry in 2010 by jointly announcing the FlexPod converged infrastructure reference architecture with EMC arch-rival NetApp. That relationship has blossomed, with FlexPod reference architectures now outnumbering all other converged infrastructures in the market, according to industry figures, although the VCE vBlock sales offer better revenue.

EMC responded to FlexPod with a new relationship with Brocade.

These new partnerships made it clear that the relationship between Cisco and EMC is nonexclusive. However, they did little to actually slow down their partnership, which has continued to evolve with upgrades to each other's technologies.
