For this year's Products of the Year, CRN editors selected five finalists among 17 technology categories and then asked solution providers to rate the products to determine a winner. After a survey that netted more than 5,000 responses, here are the hot products that stood out from the rest in 2016.

CISCO APPLICATION CENTRIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Finalist

With a new release of its Application Centric Infrastructure, Cisco added support for Docker containers (through an integration with the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller and the open-source Project Contiv) while also enhancing security (via micro-segmentation support).

CUMULUS NETWORKS CUMULUS LINUX 3.0

Finalist

Open-networking proponent Cumulus Networks added a number of compatible hardware platforms -- including from major vendors such as Dell and Supermicro -- with Cumulus Linux 3.0, while also adding capabilities for working with 100G.

JUNIPER CSRX FIREWALL

Finalist

Juniper Networks' cSRX firewall brings a new approach to securing software-defined networks with a microservices architecture that makes deployment easier and less expensive. The product includes capabilities around content security and threat management, and leverages Docker container technology for improved agility.

VERIZON-VIPTELA SD-WAN PLATFORM

Finalist

The software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) platform from Verizon and startup Viptela enables customers to achieve the ideal mix of private and public IP connections for their application and bandwidth needs, including MPLS, wireless LTE, broadband and Ethernet.
