Commvault argues that enterprises are moving toward secondary storage as part of their so-called "IT transformation" efforts. The company says about 70 percent of customer data is consumed as a secondary copy, meaning the market is primed for solutions that provide data protection and management coupled with "cloud-like" services delivered on-premise. "The demands of secondary storage and the need to find new value from secondary copy data is driving customers to find alternatives to storing and managing ever increasing data workloads and move away from traditional scale-up, purpose-built appliances," Commvault argues.
