GENERAL-PURPOSE SERVERS
HPE PROLIANT DL380, GEN10
WINNER: OVERALL
The 10th-generation version of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's popular server, the ProLiant DL380, incorporates the latest in storage and memory technologies -- with key components including HPE's new persistent memory. The technology combines standard DRAM along with NAND flash memory, a microcontroller, and an integrated battery on a module that fits in a standard memory slot. And unlike the first generation of persistent memory, which was available in 8-GB modules, the version in the Gen10 servers is available in 16-GB modules. "With persistent memory, you can scale high-performance computing type of workloads much more effectively than ever before," said Dan Molina, chief technology officer of San Diego-based Nth Generation Computing. "The performance benefits have been radically improved thanks to this persistent scalable memory."
