Disaster Recovery As A Service

A big sales and services driver in 2021 is centered on Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), according to Kevin McDonald, CISO at Alvaka Networks, Irvine, Calif. DRaaS is a cloud service consumption model that enables customers to back up their data and infrastructure in a cloud environment and provide all the disaster recovery orchestration to regain access and function to IT infrastructure after a cyberattack.

Putting in insider protection, with a second set of permissions, will make all the difference.

“Even if I decide to tell my management team to delete that profile or delete that product or that data set, it takes additional permission and it takes the vendor’s participation in that process for that to happen,” McDonald said. “You can‘t just come in and encrypt or overwrite or delete data—there’s a big opportunity there for people.”
