An MSP ‘Evangelist’ On Wall Street: 8 Things You Need To Know About SolarWinds MSP Possible Spin-Off

More M&A Possible

Thompson said there are a number of smaller businesses that SolarWinds MSP could pursue to enhance its offerings. But because the businesses are small compared with the size of the parent company, the deals are not prioritized within the current structure.

“Any acquisition, whether it‘s $5 million in revenue or whether it’s $50 million in revenue, requires a lot of effort,” Thompson said. “Size really only adds about 15 [percent] or 20 percent to the integration effort. And so when you’re working with a billion-dollar-revenue company, you don’t spend time buying $3 [million] and $5 [million] and even maybe $10 million revenue streams. But for businesses doing $300 million in revenue and that technology is strategic, you absolutely can and should do that.”
