Top Predictions For The Future Of The Managed Service Provider Industry

A More Secure Future.

Rich Delaney, chief technology officer, principal solutions architect and founder of Delaney Computer Services in New York City said MSPs who fail to adapt to today’s security focused environment will be shut out by tomorrow’s more stringent compliance and regulatory challenges.

“I see MSP’s needing to adopt more of a hybrid MSP+MSSP business model which will require that they place cybersecurity at the top of their list of what’s important and seriously increase their own knowledge with all things security and ultimately add to their own Managed Services offering or they will fade away into IT obscurity. This is brought on by the recent increased awareness of the SMB’s that they need to adopt proper cybersecurity practices, or their businesses and organizations will be exposed to much greater risks in the days ahead.

This is mainly due to a few factors such as bureaucratic-driven cyber security compliance requirements, mandated by state and local governments and regulatory bodies, and fueled by the ever increasing number of reported breaches of PII, privacy concerns, and exacerbated by the increasing sprawl of IoT devices.

In my opinion, MSP’s seem to only dabble in or provide minimal baseline cybersecurity at best to the average small and midsized businesses they serve. MSP’s that don’t have the ability to provide their own cybersecurity product should seriously consider partnering with a third party MSSP, until such time as they can evolve their practices. MSP’s will really need to take a hard look at their security offerings or lack thereof and work to expand it to stay relevant in the years ahead.”
