Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP Inc. retained its lead in the desktop PC market, in terms of sales through North American distributors, in the first quarter, according to The NPD Group. However, HP's share of the market declined to 44.2 percent, from 49.3 percent a year earlier.

According to The NPD Group, HP's sales in Q1 were buoyed by desktops including the ProDesk 400 G5, a micro-tower PC that offers eighth-gen Intel Core processors (up to the Core i7-8700, with a clock speed of up to 4.6 GHz). HP also saw strong sales of the EliteDesk 800 G4, a compact-sized desktop that can be mounted behind a display and features eighth-gen Intel Core processors.
