One of the key integrations for F5 and Nginx involves their respective channel programs and ecosystems.

"We will carry the whole machinery and plumbing of our program to the F5 Unity program," Whiteley said.

All existing Nginx partners can be grandfathered into the joint program. But Nginx will also keep its legacy program intact for solution providers not looking to sell the whole F5 portfolio—an important decision for preserving many of the unique partners Nginx had attracted since launching its first formal program at the start of this year.

The flow of partners will go both ways.

F5 has more than 2,000 partners. Nginx estimates that 5 percent to 10 percent already have DevOps practices, "which would make them an absolute perfect fit for us," Whiteley said.

"We expect there will be a significant influx of partners we can on-board to our type of solutions," he said.
