Lifesize CEO Craig Malloy: Security, Data Privacy Issues Give Video Industry 'A Bad Name'

Security: A Decision, Not A Choice

As the COVID-19 coronavirus forces millions of employees to work remotely and students to learn at home, the videoconferencing market is one of the few that is growing by leaps and bounds in the midst of the pandemic and resulting economic downturn.

Lifesize CEO and founder Craig Malloy, who has been at the helm since the company got its start in 2003, believes that it’s critical for businesses to trust their video communications service providers, now more than ever. Just last month, Lifesize announced it merged with Serenova, an Austin, Texas-based contact center-as-a-service firm.

With cloud video competitors, such as Zoom Video Communications, landing in the news because of security and data privacy concerns around their offerings, Lifesize is sticking to its roots. That's because security and privacy have always been core tenants of the Lifesize platform, and enterprises are taking notice, Malloy told CRN.

Malloy talked about what the company has been doing to accommodate the huge uptick -- in some cases, a 30 percent increase each day -- in videoconferencing demand, and the importance of prioritizing security and data privacy.

What follows are excerpts from the conversation.
