5. Tech Industry Embraces Secure Access Service Edge Trend

Secure Access Service Edge, also known as SASE (Pronounced Sassy), was widely accepted last year as the evolution of SD-WAN products and services, with an injection of security.

Today, SASE combines network security functions with WAN capabilities to support the quickly changing access needs of businesses all over the world. 2020 saw a number of SASE announcements, as well as several mergers between incumbent networking leaders and pure play SD-WAN providers, including Palo Alto‘s CloudGenix purchase and HPE/Aruba scooping up Silver Peak.

Gartner's 2020 Magic Quadrant for WAN Edge Infrastructure report contained 17 vendors that matured their SD-WAN offerings with the addition of security, analytics, and managed solutions. To that end, the report last year included four new leaders, including Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and Versa Networks.
