Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certificate proves a user has what it takes to effectively design, implement and manage a best-in-class cybersecurity program, and has been compared to a master’s degree in IT security. Certificate-holders earn an average salary of $141,452 in 2020, according to Global Knowledge.

The CISSP exam is based around eight domains in computer security: security and risk management; asset security; security architecture and engineering; communication and network security; identity and access management; security assessment and testing; security operations; software development security. Certificate-holders need five years or relevant experience in two or more of the CISSP domains.

The average CISSP certificate-holders is 48.1 years old, works as a security engineer or analyst, and holds 6.1 certifications in total, according to Global Knowledge. The most popular cross-certification is the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
