‘Humanity’s Source Code’: Michael Dell’s Inspiring Quotes To Graduates

‘Technology itself is neutral. It’s neither good nor bad. Technology can amplify human genius, but it can also amplify human frailty. The choice is ours,’ Dell Technologies founder and CEO Michael Dell says during his commencement speech to the 2019 graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin.

Michael Dell’s Words Of Windom

Although he dropped out of the University of Texas at Austin as a teenager after just two semesters, Dell Technologies CEO and founder Michael Dell was back at the University of Texas (UT) on Saturday to deliver words of wisdom to the graduating class of 2019.

“Technology itself is neutral. It’s neither good nor bad. Technology can amplify human genius, but it can also amplify human frailty. The choice is ours,” said Dell during his commencement speech to more than 9,500 UT graduates. “Many people never realize what they’re capable of because they’re afraid to make mistakes. Many people don’t stand up for what’s right because they’re afraid to be wrong. But that’s not how changing the world works. Unless you’re willing to take risks, you won’t have a chance to use your talents when and where they matter most.”

Dell dropped out of UT in 1984 at the age of 19 in order to create his own company, Dell Computer Corp., with just $1,000 in capital. Thirty-five years later, Dell Technologies is a $91 billion technology powerhouse and the worldwide market leader in storage, servers and hyper-converged infrastructure.

CRN breaks down the five most memorable and inspiration statements Dell made during his commencement speech at UT on May 25.
