The States With The Highest Gender Pay Gap In Tech

The gender pay gap in tech existed in nearly every state in 2019, with two states paying women $15,000 less than men for the same work last year. Here are 20 states that had that largest pay gaps last year, according to a recent survey.

3. Illinois 

Illinois, home to one of the country‘s largest cities, had the third-highest pay gap between women and men in tech careers, with women earning $11,375 less than men last year.

The highest pay differential in all of the Great Lakes region, Illinois amended its 2003 Equal Pay law in June 2019 specifically to address the pay gap between men and women. The act, that went into effect in September 2019, makes it unlawful for employers to ask about a job applicant’s salary history.
