The gender pay gap in tech existed in nearly every state in 2019, with two states paying women $15,000 less than men for the same work last year. Here are 20 states that had that largest pay gaps last year, according to a recent survey.

Men earned $4,779 more on average than women in the tech industry in 2019 in Virginia.

The state‘s current equal pay act bans employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, within any establishment where the employees work, by paying employees at a rate less than the rate paid to employees of the opposite sex for equal work on jobs that require equal skill, effort, and responsibility and that is performed under similar working conditions.
