Bellevue, Wash.

Auth0 in May closed a $55 million Series D round to continue innovation of its Universal Identity Platform and drive global expansion. Eight months later, the company said customers would be able to add the cost of an Auth0 Enterprise Subscription to their AWS bill, gaining fast, flexible access to cloud-based identity management.

BeyondTrust

Phoenix, Az.

Bomgar in July said it will acquire Avecto, whose Defendpoint technology combines privilege management and application control. Two months later, Bomgar acquired and took on the BeyondTrust name, creating a privilege security behemoth with more than 19,000 customers and $300 million in combined annual bookings.

Broadcom

Hock Tan, President and CEO

Broadcom’s secure switches address the need for higher bandwidth while providing a high level of performance, efficiency and scalability. The company acquired CA Technologies for $18.9 billion in November, whose mainframe security management technology increases data privacy while simplifying regulatory compliance.

Centrify

Tim Steinkopf, CEO

Santa Clara, Calif.

Thoma Bravo agreed in July to buy a majority stake in Centrify, which was expected to help the company expand its product capabilities, both organically and through M&A. In October, the company announced Steinkopf’s appointment as CEO and the spinning off of its Identity-as-a-Service business into a stand-alone company.

CyberArk

Newton, Mass.

CyberArk in March purchased certain assets of Vaultive to boost proactive cloud security controls and streamline the user experience for privileged accounts and cloud administrators. A month later, the company redoubled its efforts around MSSPs with multitenant and consumption-based pricing initiatives.

Digital Guardian

Digital Guardian unveiled a fully managed security program for resource-constrained hospitals, regional health-care systems, providers and other health-care organizations. The company also now delivers advanced analytics and anomaly-based detection on its Digital Protection Platform to give deeper insight into suspicious activities.

The updated Druva Cloud Platform extends data protection and governance capabilities to SaaS, PaaS and IaaS deployments The company also acquired CloudRanger, which simplifies management and reduces costs associated with orchestrating the life-cycle management of enterprise workloads operating in AWS.

Forcepoint

Forcepoint Web Security in March added additional CASB functionality to reduce security blindspots through real-time, inline visibility and control of sanctioned enterprise cloud applications. A month later, Forcepoint Dynamic Data Protection was unveiled to continuously assess risk and automatically provide proportional enforcement.

ForgeRock

ForgeRock and Deloitte teamed up t o m a k e all of ForgeRock’s identity offerings available as a managed service, enabling financial services, retail, and media businesses to create omnichannel experiences. The company also released the full ForgeRock Identity Platform deployable on any cloud with preconfigured installation packages.

ID Agent in November announced a technical integration with ConnectWise Manage, allowing users to establish workflows utilizing Dark Web ID exposure alerts from their Manage dashboard to boost response time. The company also expanded its partner success organization to provide more assistance.

Imprivata

Gus Malezis, President and CEO

Lexington, Mass.

Imprivata Mobile Device Access is a mobile authentication tool to ensure fast, secure access to clinical mobile devices and applications by removing adoption barriers. The company also has an online resource center to help health-care firms meet the Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances requirements taking effect in 2021.

Micro Focus

Micro Focus’ ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager 7.0 enables SOCs to become agile, expand their cyber security footprint, and respond quickly to evolving threats at massive scale. The company’s SecureData Sentry, meanwhile, helps reduce breach risks by deploying data security and enables privacy compliance for mission-critical applications.

Microsoft

Redmond, Wash.

Microsoft in April introduced new security features to its Microsoft 365 commercial cloud offering to professionals simplify how they manage security. Five months later, it launched Microsoft Secure Score, a report card that assesses Microsoft 365 customer environments and makes recommendations that can reduce breaches up to 30-fold.

Okta

Okta’s context-based technology leverages device, IP and geolocation information to help businesses identity instances where a password might not be necessary for logging in. Okta also bought cyberstartup ScaleFT to enable customers to more easily validate users, devices, applications and network information and securely grant access to data.

Ping Identity in June purchased Elastic Beam to provide a level of access control at the API level that can’t be achieved without big data, machine learning or AI. SailPoint has extended identity governance to data stored in files like spreadsheets with enhanced risk-based alerts identifying suspicious behavior. The company has additionally expanded the definitions of identities beyond humans, providing the ability to govern software bots and robotic process automation bots.

Gemalto (which is being bought by Thales) in May made its SafeNet Data Protection on Demand available as a managed service. Three months later, Gemalto unveiled a key management offering to extend data protection policies to the cloud and centralize encryption and key management operations across multiple clouds.

ThreatMetrix

Rick Trainor, CEO, LexisNexus Risk Solutions, Business Services

San Jose, Calif.

ThreatMetrix in April delivered the first product integrations between ThreatMetrix and LexisNexis Risk Solutions, with ThreatMetrix ID incorporating user identifiers from customers or technology partners. Six months later, the company teamed up with SAS to help creditors better establish the “who” behind online credit applications.

Varonis
