Social Network Cybersquatting

An attacker attempting to steal login credentials from EA Sports users copycatted an EA Sports account on Twitter in an attempt to trick people into trusting its malicious links were from the game maker, according to security vendor Malwarebytes. The security vendor, which detected the attack in May, said the age-old cybersquatting technique involved creating a Twitter account similar to an official account used by EA to market its popular FIFA 15 video game. The latest version of the popular FIFA franchise launched June 9. The phony links led to phishing and spam pages created on web-hosting service Weebly, Malwarebytes said.
