Canon Unveils EOS 50D, Olympus Counters

The Canon EOS 50D features a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor for sharper images for both amateur photographers and professionals. The latest camera from the company also has a 3-inch Clear View LCD for photo previewing. By pairing the camera up with a Compact Flash memory card, photogs can get 90 jpegs in a single burst.

The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a 10.1 megapixel camera, down five megapixels from its EOS 50D counterpart. Still, the Rebel XS has auto lighting optimizer for shadow and contrast control, allowing less experienced photographers to still take high quality snaps without having to worry about getting the light just right. The SLR also has a 2.5-inch LCD display, allowing anyone to get a clear look at the picture they just snapped.

Just in time for the back to school rush, the Canon PowerShot E1 is a point and shoot digital camera that comes in different colors to match new backpacks and binders. The 10 megapixel camera with 4x optical zoom is right for capturing moments spontaneously without having to worry about adjusting the right settings or preparing for the perfect shot. The PowerShot E1 features a 2.5-inch LCD screen to make sure everyone's face is crystal clear.

Not to be out done by Canon, Olympus is jumping into the digital SLR market with an offering of its own. The Olympus SP-565UZ is a 10 megapixel camera with a 2.5-inch LCD display. While the megapixel rating and LCD screens are less robust than on the Canon EOS 50D, the Olympus SP-565UZ makes up for it by offering telephoto zoom capabilities. Ranging from 1x to 20x, photographers can still take clear, sharp images from a greater distance without giving up any clarity.

The Olympus FE-60 is a digital point and shoot eight megapixel camera measuring in at a slim .7 inches. The FE-60 slips easily into a pocket but still takes sharp pictures, using facial recognition technology. Amateur photographers, or those just wanting to take quick pictures, can choose from 20 different modes to make sure that the FE-60 is prepared to take high quality pictures regardless of the lighting or landscape.

The Olympus FE-370 has a slightly wider footprint than its FE-60 counterpart, and measure .9 inches. But like the FE-60, the FE-370 is a point-and-shoot eight megapixel camera featuring 5x zoom capabilities. The Intelligent Auto feature lets the camera sense its surroundings and adjust its mode accordingly in order to take the best picture it can.
