VeloCloud has been channel-focused from the start and has strong relationships with VAR and MSP partners, as well as service providers. VMware also has a very large, successful partner ecosystem, so that route to market won't change, Ulander said.

"The addition of VeloCloud's deep relationships with the service provider community will be a huge route to market, and that will probably be the most significant change from a route-to-market perspective for us," he said.

"The market opportunity is substantial here as almost every branch is going to look at SD-WAN as a logical option, compared to more traditional routing solutions they deploy today," added Rajiv Ramaswami, VMware's COO of products and cloud services.
