Dell PowerStore:The Next Evolution Of Smart Storage

Dell PowerStore continues to lead the storage market with its future-proof architecture, cost-saving efficiency, and unrivaled ease of use. Brian Henderson from Dell Technologies discusses PowerStore's momentum and enhancements, and gives a sneak peek at what to expect at Dell Tech World.

Can you reflect on PowerStore's journey and how it transformed into one of Dell's standout storage products?

Brian Henderson: It's very exciting how this product was born. We had all these different technologies and fantastic engineers put in a room with a whiteboard and said, "Let's imagine what we can do for a modern storage experience." And that's how PowerStore was born. We're going to be celebrating the fifth birthday of PowerStore at DTW coming up. Looking back, the momentum has been fantastic. It's been our fastest-growing storage product ever, with over 10,000 customers in just three years. Now we're at around 17,000 customers, and we can't say enough about the value of our partners as we built up that number. We've also received six product of the year awards and were voted number one for ease of use, innovation, and roadmap confidence.

What were some of the key features introduced with PowerStore Prime that resonated with customers and partners?

Brian Henderson: One of the big moments for us was last year's PowerStore Prime launch when we introduced dozens of new features. The two that have resonated the most are the introduction of the five-to-one data reduction guarantee, which moved up from four-to-one, giving our customers 20 percent more guaranteed savings on their capacity, drives, and power. We also have the lifecycle extension program, which allows customers to modernize their systems. They can move up to another model, get the next generation when it comes out, or scale up within their cluster. People are very happy about that.

What should partners be excited about in PowerStore's latest release?

Brian Henderson: With the next release, we're doubling down on the core capabilities that make this product special. We're making it smarter, more secure, and easier to use. One area I'd like to call out is smart support, where we constantly monitor the system for defects. For example, if a drive is about to fail, we can automatically send an alert to our support team and dispatch the part, sometimes without our customers even knowing. Another area is migrations. We're making it really simple for customers to move from systems like Unity and third-party solutions to PowerStore with the feature called Universal Storage Migration.

Looking towards the future, what key trends does Dell see shaping the technology landscape, and how does PowerStore equip partners to stay ahead of those developments?

Brian Henderson: There is so much happening in the market these days, whether it be tariffs, AI mandates, sustainability updates, or hypervisor changes. We can't address everything, but we can look at how these changes are causing our customers to consider different options. They're looking at disaggregating their architectures, and PowerStore was built to handle this kind of momentum and market change. It offers the ecosystem support, automation capabilities, and the ability to connect to protection and integrate with parts of the stack. We're giving them the simplicity of HCI with the flexibility of a disaggregated and automated system.

As we look forward to DTW 2025, what can partners expect from Dell's storage strategy and beyond?

Brian Henderson: We're super excited about Dell Tech World. Attendees will hear about AI, new AI PCs, and workplace enhancements. For storage, they'll see PowerStore featured in keynotes, booths, and hands-on labs. We're also rolling out the red carpet for our partners with a global partner summit, featuring content catered to their interests. We believe that making our customers happy and delivering value to those who need this great storage system means we're doing our job here at Dell.
