Arctic Wolf Targets MSP Security Gaps With Aurora MDR Connect

“You can't protect what you can't see.”

Visibility is a critical need for a healthy cybersecurity practice, but finding the right tool at the right price point can be a challenge. That’s why Arctic Wolf is extending its security operations model deeper into the channel with Aurora MDR Connect, a new managed detection and response (MDR) service built exclusively for MSPs. The offering is designed to give partners 24x7 monitoring, investigation and pre-authorized response across endpoint, identity, email, cloud and network telemetry without forcing them to build and continually fund their own SOC.

This launch lands as security has become an up-front customer requirement rather than an add-on, with AI-assisted attacks fueling anxiety. While these threats are real, Ben Bitterman, global vice president of managed services at Arctic Wolf, noted that following the basics of cybersecurity practices are still the biggest deterrents to attackers. “It is not doom and gloom,” he said. “There’s still a heavy focus and needed focus on the core fundamentals of security, [such as] external exposures, appropriate hygiene, exercises around MFA and around having the right controls in place.”

Increases in attacks are colliding with another shift: customers increasingly want one trusted provider to manage both IT and security. Bitterman said the former dividing line between MSPs and MSSPs is fading because customers “don't want to work with multiple companies.” That creates an opportunity for MSPs to expand their services, but it also raises operational pressure around staffing, after-hours coverage, tool integration and accountability when incidents occur.

A new problem arises when it comes to deciding which solutions a customer needs, as confusing market terminology compounds the issue. Endpoint detection and response (EDR) may protect one layer, while extended detection and response (XDR) can connect data across products, but partners still need clarity on who investigates, who responds and who communicates with the customer.

“That confusion on who's responsible for what? What is the vendor providing versus what is the service provider responsible for doing? That creates a lot of tension and cost pressure in the market,” Bitterman said. He argued that providers need broad visibility and enough context to reach root cause quickly, execute the right response and demonstrate value over the life of the customer relationship.

Aurora MDR Connect is Arctic Wolf’s answer to the cost and complexity behind that mandate. The service runs on the same Aurora Superintelligence Platform, Agentic SOC and detection engine as its flagship Aurora MDR offering. It also extends beyond endpoint telemetry to identity, email, cloud, SaaS, firewall, and on-premises Active Directory, giving MSPs a single foundation instead of another collection of point tools.

The service is deliberately MSP-led. Arctic Wolf communicates with the partner rather than the end customer, while the MSP retains responsibility for tuning and configuration, remediation and customer communication. Pre-authorized actions can include host containment, account actions and email actions. That operating model allows partners to remain the face of the service while drawing on Arctic Wolf’s security operations infrastructure.

Bitterman said Arctic Wolf developed the offer after partners described the company’s flagship MDR as a “high end sports car” suited to customers with heavier regulatory, compliance and security requirements. Smaller customers were often protected through pieced-together tools or endpoint-only packages. Aurora MDR Connect is intended to bring full SOC coverage into an MSP’s foundational service tiers at economics that align with the managed services model.

Arctic Wolf made two notable distinctions between Aurora MDR Connect and its flagship Aurora MDR. MDR Connect customers do not receive monthly access to dedicated concierge security resources, and deployment does not require a physical network sensor for deeper net flow analysis. Instead, firewall and network telemetry can be collected through published integrations. For MSPs onboarding customers at scale, that fully digital model should reduce deployment friction. “The time to value is very quick with MDR Connect,” Bitterman said.

The product will be distributed exclusively through Arctic Wolf’s MSP channel, with partners assessed for operational maturity before contracting. “Arctic Wolf has always been 100 percent channel go-to-market strategy, but this is one of our first product offerings that we're exclusively launching just through our MSP channel,” Bitterman said. Qualified MSPs are expected to already deliver ongoing managed security services and own remediation, IT support and customer communications.

For solution providers, the strategic value is not limited to filling a security gap. The same platform gives partners a path to move customers into full Aurora MDR as risk and compliance needs mature. After the first deployments, Bitterman said insights can reveal customers that require additional services and help partners build renewal, packaging and expansion motions. That turns MDR from a defensive checkbox into a foundation for recurring revenue, stronger retention and a broader security practice.
