Dell’s Maureen Gaumer Urges Women In Channel To ‘Embrace the Power of a Pivot’
Change in any capacity is hard. That was the focal point Maureen Gaumer, senior director of North America Channel Marketing at Dell Technologies, delivered during her keynote at Women of the Channel East 2025. Gaumer shared her personal career journey, emphasizing the importance of reinvention and intentional risk-taking.
“I have never done this before, but here we go,” Gaumer began, acknowledging the nerves that come with stepping outside her comfort zone. Her vulnerability set the tone for a candid discussion about career growth and adaptability, qualities that channel leaders and solution providers increasingly need as technology ecosystems shift.
Gaumer introduced the concept of “career squiggles,” a term she first encountered at another conference. “I don’t think I know anybody who’s had a very linear path in their career,” she said, noting that her own trajectory included six roles over 12 years in channel marketing. Those roles spanned North America and global positions, working with solution providers, distribution partners, GSIs, and advisory firms.
Her message to the audience was clear: embrace change and pursue roles that align with passion and strengths. “When you find your passion, growth and success naturally follow,” Gaumer said. She urged attendees to “reinvent yourself, stretch yourself and pivot. Your career is not a straight line. It will never be a straight line.”
For solution providers, Gaumer’s advice underscores a broader industry truth: agility is critical. Whether adapting to new vendor programs, shifting customer demands or emerging technologies, the ability to pivot can define long-term success. “Every pivot is a chance to learn and grow and make an impact,” she added.
Gaumer closed by encouraging women in the channel to own their decisions and stand in their power. “Be intentional in the risks that you take, but follow your passions and own your decisions.”
