What are the key architectural differences between the new AMD EPYC processors from the previous AMD Genoa generation and Intel's current offerings?

David: When you look at what's happened in the introduction of our fifth-gen AMD EPYC, I see it as an inflection point in our roadmap. First and foremost, I focus on the architecture and the scale that these new processors bring. With AI capabilities evolving, the distinction now lies in a processor's ability to handle AI inference of a model versus using a GPU for AI training. There's a 17 percent IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) uptick, which marks a significant milestone. For HPC and AI workloads, we see a 35 percent IPC increase, which underscores the significant capabilities this fifth-gen AMD EPYC brings to the market. Memory and IO capabilities have continued to grow. We have a 12-channel capacity, similar to the fourth gen, but now there's speed improvement, reaching 6,000 megatransfers with potential future capabilities of 6,400. Significantly, this is the first time we've achieved a data center processor capable of 5 gigahertz.

How can Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD EPYC processors optimize modern infrastructure design?

Allen: Dave did an excellent job highlighting the advancements AMD brought with the fifth-generation AMD EPYC processor. From a PowerEdge brand perspective, we focus on three primary pillars to realize these innovations for customers. Firstly, we build these servers for very specific purposes, allowing customers to deploy this great technology to achieve business outcomes. These outcomes live on specific applications or workloads, particularly in artificial intelligence, where these technologies drive the business. Secondly, we address scalability, as customers often purchase tens, hundreds or thousands of systems at a time, especially for larger clients. The final pillar of Infinity Guard is ensuring an end-to-end technology chain to build a cyber-resilient platform.
