Dell’s Ray Lipsky: Cyber Resilience Is Shifting From Prevention To Assured Recovery
As artificial intelligence accelerates the pace of cyberattacks, solution providers face growing pressure from customers who are looking beyond prevention strategies and focusing on how quickly they can recover from an incident.
AI Is Shrinking The Response Window For Customers
Pressure is rising because of the fast-shrinking window between vulnerability discovery and exploitations that cause business repercussions, according to Ray Lipsky, SVP, global sales, security and reliance platforms at Dell Technologies. With changing customer priorities, new opportunities are being created for channel partners focused on cyber resilience.
"The thing I hear about most is speed or time," Lipsky said. "The window between the vulnerability showing up and someone actually exploiting it used to be weeks and sometimes even months. AI has compressed that down to hours."
With that shift, customers are increasingly asking their service providers direct questions about business continuity, recovery readiness and confidence in backup environments.
"We know that attackers are going straight after the backups now [and] not just the production data," Lipsky said. "The real question customers are asking isn't can I stop every attack? It's when something gets through, do I have a clean copy I can trust? And can I get back up fast enough without reintroducing the problem?"
Clients Are Looking To Partners For Recovery Confidence
Dell’s PowerProtect cyber resilience portfolio supports a full ‘secure, detect and recover’ strategy that delivers recovery confidence. Rather than relying on standalone tools, Lipsky said Dell is emphasizing an integrated approach designed to protect data, identify threats and streamline recovery operations.
"All three jobs have to get done," Lipsky said. “We have something purpose-built for each.”
Lipsky said PowerProtect Data Domain serves as the security foundation, providing hardened, immutable data protection designed to safeguard backup environments from tampering. PowerProtect Data Manager focuses on detecting potential threats and risks within protected data, while PowerProtect One brings those capabilities together in a centralized environment for managing both data protection and recovery operations.
Partners that can help customers secure data, validate recovery processes and reduce downtime are better positioned to manage evolving, AI-powered threats while also increasing client trust and improving business outcomes.
