Empowering Women In Tech: Palo Alto Networks’ Commitment
Palo Alto Networks is making diversity and inclusion a cornerstone of its approach to cybersecurity and leadership development. The company actively supports women in technology and participates in Women of the Channel events to help shape the future of the industry. In an exclusive interview with CRNtv, Karen Goodman, SVP, Commercial Sales and Shared Services at Palo Alto Networks, shared how these initiatives are transforming workplace culture and driving innovation.
Goodman explains why emotional intelligence and leadership are critical to building an inclusive environment.
“We want to enable our leaders to foster trust with their teams. This can happen through open communication and it's necessary for our teams to be able to do their best work,” Goodman says. “We want to form the foundation for an inclusive culture. We want everyone to feel valued, respected and supported.”
She emphasizes that collaboration and knowledge sharing are key drivers of engagement and innovation. “Reinforcing a sense of belonging and shared ownership is how new ideas will emerge,” Goodman notes.
To turn these values into action, Palo Alto Networks promotes collaboration across teams through steering committees, task forces, and cross-functional groups that influence decision-making. “We publicly acknowledge and celebrate each of those that are living these company values and recognize them each quarter,” Goodman explains. “This allows us to make decisions quickly in a very collaborative way.”
Mentorship is another pillar of the company’s strategy to empower women and future leaders. Goodman points out that Palo Alto Networks offers self-directed networking opportunities, talent enablement programs and global employee resource groups focused on career development. “Our global women employee network group also offers career development sessions and networking with senior leadership and our customers, including opportunities to lead technical workshops for the women in cybersecurity members,” she adds.
For solution providers, these initiatives highlight the importance of fostering inclusive leadership within their own organizations. Diverse perspectives and collaborative cultures not only strengthen teams but also lead to better solutions for customers navigating complex cybersecurity challenges.
