Sophos Warns: Cybercrime Is Now A Global Business

At XChange August, Scott Barlow, vice president of global MSP and cloud alliances at Sophos, and Anthony Booyse, senior manager of sales engineering for MDR, delivered a clear message to solution providers: cybercrime is no longer a fringe threat. It has become a global enterprise.

“Adversaries do not break in, they log in,” Barlow said, referencing a Sophos study of 3,000 ransomware victims that identified compromised credentials and unpatched systems as the most common entry points. “Patch your systems,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of basic security hygiene.

Booyse reinforced Sophos’ mission to democratize cybersecurity. “We are in absolutely relentless pursuit of our vision…a world where organizations of any size and means have a clear path to superior cybersecurity outcomes,” he said. He credited MSPs and partners for their frontline role. “Without you, this is a lot worse. I want to thank you and tip my hat to you.”

Barlow outlined Sophos’ five product categories: SecOps, endpoint security, network security, cloud security and email security. He introduced “network in a box,” a bundled offering that includes a firewall, wireless access point and switch. He also pointed to the opportunity for partners to act as virtual CISOs, noting that only 0.009 percent of businesses globally employ one.

“There’s an opportunity to align security to the actual business. Have a seat at that board table,” Barlow said.
