ThreatLocker’s Rob Allen Urges Solution Providers to Simplify Cybersecurity at XChange NexGen 2025

The most effective cybersecurity strategy is a simplified approach. That was ThreatLocker’s message at XChange NexGen 2025, delivered by their chief product officer Rob Allen.

“Cybersecurity can seem very complex and overwhelming sometimes,” Allen said, acknowledging the growing pressure on MSPs and IT leaders to keep pace with evolving threats. He emphasized that many business owners still associate cyber threats with outdated incidents like the Love Bug virus, while today’s reality is far more dangerous and lucrative for attackers. “The cyber crime market is worth billions of dollars. It’s estimated this year to be $640 billion.”

Allen challenged the effectiveness of traditional frameworks, calling some of their guidance “word salad” and “nonspecific.” He pointed to misconfigurations as a major vulnerability, citing a Gartner stat: “60% of organizations have had some sort of a event or breach caused by a misconfiguration.”

ThreatLocker’s solution? A proactive, default-deny approach backed by real-time monitoring and configuration checks. “DAC currently runs 170 checks on every single machine in your environments every single day,” Allen explained. “It will tell you why it is important and if there is a solution it will tell you what the solution is.”

He also stressed the importance of 24/7 monitoring: “Anybody who's running an EDR who does not have MDR or a SoC, you're wasting your time.”
