Turning IT Assets Into Business Impact
Industry leaders at the Ingram Micro ONE are focusing on how sustainability and profitability intersect, and IT asset disposition (ITAD) is at the center of that conversation. For solution providers, ITAD is no longer just about recycling old devices; it’s a full lifecycle opportunity to drive recurring revenue and strengthen customer relationships.
“ITAD and ITAM, it isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for business,” said Patrick O’Dell, executive director of sale services at Ingram Micro. The distributor has invested heavily in programmatic approaches that allow reseller partners to monetize ITAD services, creating what O’Dell calls “a true monetary MRR almost right, a recurring revenue stream based off of IT asset disposition.”
Ingram Micro’s global reach and scale enable partners to offer secure, compliant disposal processes while maximizing value from devices at every stage of their lifecycle. “We’re really proud of the fact that we’re able to help our vendor customers keep their devices in the ecosystems longer,” O’Dell explained. “We’re making sure that those devices are being removed safely and securely. We’re also proud of the fact that we’re helping our reseller partners recognize monetary value for those devices.”
The company’s ITAD practice extends beyond end-of-life recycling. It includes pre-sales design, multi-OEM integration, implementation services, depot and warehousing capabilities, and ultimately, resale of retired assets. “We have the best buyers in the industry,” O’Dell said. “We have the capabilities to go through a lot of devices and get the best possible value for those devices for our reseller partners.”
Looking ahead, Ingram Micro is leveraging data to make ITAD smarter and more prescriptive. By analyzing years of transactional detail, the company can alert partners when customers are due for a refresh, typically within a four- to five-year window, and recommend next-generation devices. “Is it AI compatible? Are we giving them the right devices to go back into market with the refresh?” O’Dell said. This approach not only offsets costs for new hardware but also strengthens partner stickiness and profitability.
As device lifecycles shorten and sustainability becomes a business imperative, ITAD offers solution providers a competitive edge. “It’s a win-win for our vendor partners. It’s a win-win for our reseller partners. And of course, it’s a win-win for Ingram,” O’Dell concluded.
